Geofoam provides considerable advantages over soil alternatives in road, bridge, and ramp alternatives:

Geofoam is also used in commercial building construction as fill around swimming pools, as an alternative to concrete or other heavier support alternatives.

Traditional soil alternatives are heavy and can cause settlement, instability or lateral pressures. Fill materials such as foamed concrete, waste tires, soil, woodchips, wood fiber, etc., have higher densities, have inconsistent or unwanted properties, and often lead to higher construction costs. They also have limitations in handling and can be weather sensitive, thus requiring staged construction and/or preloading, surcharging and draining, etc. PermaTherm's EPS Geofoam maximizes onsite installation efficiency. Material can arrive at the job site prefabricated and ready to place. It is easily inventoried and handled, even during inclement weather.
